History of Telaiya Dam
In year 1943, a catastrophic flood came in Bengal. As a result, the Governor of bengal appointed Damodar Flood enquiry committe to suggest the safety measure against that kind of problems. The committe came with a suggestion of creating a dam similar to Tennessee Valley Authority which were a big name in USA that time. W.L Voorduin prepared the preliminary report where he provided the outline the plan of the Dam so that it can control flood, provide power, navigation and irrigation. As a result Damodar Valley Corporation(DVC) came into existence in 1948. There was a proposal to contruct 8 dams and a barrage but later it was decided to construct only four dams which were at Jhumri Telaiya, Konar, Maithon and Panchet along with a Barrage at Durgapur.
